Rev. Dr. Thomas Lane Butts
The Reverend Dr. Butts grew up in the Bermuda Community 7 miles north of Repton, but has always considered Repton his home town. His family came to Repton for business pertaining to their farm.
Their family doctor was Dr. William Carter, whose practice was in Repton. Dr. Butts graduated from Repton High School in 1948 and was licensed to preach in the Methodist Church in 1949. He holds degrees from Pensacola Jr. College, Troy University, Huntingdon College, Emory University, Northwestern University, and Garrett Biblical Institute.
He preaches in churches throughout the country and has been summer guest preacher at Christ Church on Park Ave. in New York each year since 1988. He has been featured 38 times on the Protestant Ratdio Network (Day 1) and 24 times on their TV program. He writes a weekly column, "An Encouraging Word" for the Monroe Journal which carried in several other newspapers, and on the Day 1 and Gulf 1 websites.
He lives in retirement with his wife, Hilda, in Monroeville, Alabama, where he is Pastor Emeritus of First United Methodist Church.
