No Dump! In December of 2006, I, Mayor Terri Carter, received an anonymous phone call stating that we were about to have an industry that we did not want. It would locate just outside the town limits of Repton. I pressed a little more and found that it would be the LARGEST LANDFILL in the United States and receive garbage from ALL 48 STATES! I started asking questions and the dump representatives came to see me. They told me it was a done deal and there was nothing we could do about it. But, they wanted to know what they could do for Repton to be a good neighbor. I told them, they could take it somewhere else because we weren’t for sale! I am proud to say that Repton and the surrounding community bonded, stood strong and, so far, have kept them from making this 5,000 acre Dump a reality. But the DUMP investors have not left the area yet, so we still must stand united until this threat is ended.
We believe in personal responsibility and taking care of our own mess but we do not feel we should be burdened with the entire country’s garbage! We already have a landfill just 12 miles from Repton that has plenty of room to grow! The entire state of Alabama should be outraged by out-of-state investors dumping on “ALABAMA THE BEAUTIFUL!”
